Tanker 3 was purchased new by the Casselton Fire Department and placed into service on August 20, 1959. She was formally retired from service on Dec 21, 2009, but has been used primarily for parade duty and the occasional practice for the last fourteen years.

This truck was purchased with funds donated by the rural townships and was designated as the Rural Tanker. At the time of purchase, it was the first 2,000 gallon tanker in the state of North Dakota. Tanker 3 is a Howe body (Howe Fire Equipment of Anderson, IN) mounted on a 1959 Ford F-750 cabover chassis equipped with a 534 cubic-inch V8 gasoline engine, a five-speed manual transmission, and a two-speed rear axle. A mid-ship Waterous pump delivers 500 gallons per minute. This old war horse is a familiar site to anyone that grew up in or around Casselton.
