This Amkus gear, recently sold to a neighboring fire department, was the department's first extrication tool purchase in 1993. In 1999, Lukas tools were purchased and the Amkus gear was moved to a backup role. The primary gear (Lukas) resides in the rescue truck while the backup gear is carried in an attack engine. An AFG grant has allowed the department to purchase a new set of Hurst equipment and the Lukas tools will now assume the backup role.
The equipment is in great shape. The Briggs & Stratton engine was recently tuned and starts easily and immmediately. The tools are exercised on a regular basis as well as during extrication practice, but have only been used a few times in actual service since the Lukas tools were acquired.
